Pipe Ramming

Triad has expanded its trenchless expertise with pipe ramming. Pipe ramming is a method by which either pipe or steel casing is installed by pneumatic hammering. The spoil within the pipe or casing is not removed until after the full length of pipe is installed or in regulated amounts so that spoil remains in the front of the casing. This method is useful in soft ground conditions for short crossings where subsidence is a risk. Pipe ramming had enabled Triad to expand its trenchless ability to handle almost any underground condition. We have experience with smaller house connections up to 96” steel casing under a busy Charleston, SC street.

96” pipe ramming performed on the Medical University of South Carolina infrastructure project. Soil over the casing was less than eight feet and contained other crossing utilities. There was no surface settlement or movement of the utilities.
